This has been a challenging year with extensive economic pressure on the retail sector. With the rise in the cost-of-living, disposable incomes have reduced significantly and consumers have become far more stringent with their spending habits. Moving forward, however, the recent figures from the BRC-Nielsen Shop Price Index show promise for struggling retailers with inflation at its lowest since September 2022. Commenting on the figures, BIRA CEO, Andrew Goodacre commended the retail sector for ‘doing their bit’ in keeping prices low. In more positive news, this year’s Small Business Saturday campaign was reported a success. According to research from American Express, more than 11 million members of the UK public supported a small business, either online or on their local high street, generating a collective £669m. As we transition into the Christmas trading period, it would be great to see this support for small businesses continue.
