A quieter week to close the year for John Lewis

John Lewis has reported quieter trading in the final week of its financial year (to January 30) against a backdrop of changeable weather.

Total sales were up 0.6% year-on-year, while online sales rose 6.4% compared with last year.

Sales at the department store group’s shops were down overall, but its Heathrow, York and Exeter branches delivered ‘particularly positive increases versus last year’.

At a directorate level, Home was up 2.9% and saw increases across all product categories, with home accessories driving the greatest year-on-year growth.

EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) too, was up 1.7%, with the strongest performance within the area of communication technology.
