Addis Housewares sponsors RDT charity coastal challenge

Addis Housewares has teamed up with Rainy Day Trust (RDT) to raise awareness and funds for the industry charity.

The company will be sponsoring RDT ceo Bryan Clover as he swaps his boardroom for a 186 mile charity walk along the Pembrokeshire coast from St Dogmaels to Amroth.

He is setting off on his expedition on May 3 and pledges to complete the journey in 10 days.

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path Challenge is famous for its 35,000 ft ascent, narrow paths and undulations. Over the years it has attracted many challengers – but few have vowed to complete the course in just 10 days.

Bryan explained: “The recommended time is 15 days, and given that the ascent-descent is equivalent to climbing Mount Everest, I think the Coastal Path Challenge is certainly going to live up to its name!

“But I’m really looking forward to the hike and hope it raises awareness of the help that we can give to people from our industry who live and work in Wales.”

Janine Davies, marketing manager at Addis said: “We’re delighted to be in partnership with RDT and to support all the brilliant work it does for the industry.

“It’s a charity that’s so close to the hearts and minds of those in the homewares sector, so it was a great fit for us. To team up on this particular challenge is fantastic, especially as we’re based in South Wales.”

Bryan added: “We’re so pleased that Addis are sponsoring the challenge. Both brands have been in the industry for many years – RDT since 1843 and Addis since 1780 – so it’s nice to stick together and give back to our community.

“All the proceeds raised will be invested in our projects in South Wales, which include help for apprentices and support for those returning to work after a period away.”

The accommodation for the event has been donated.

RDT is the UK’s only charity which exists solely to support people who work or have worked in the home improvement industry and their families in times of need.

It operates across three sectors (builders merchants, DIY & hardware and housewares & tabletop) which have a combined turnover of more than £50 billion and employ close to 500,000 people.
