Argos expects jingle clicks on Cyber Monday

Online high street retailer Argos expects to receive more than 3 million visits to its websites and apps on Cyber Monday (December 2) – the busiest day of the year for online shoppers.
On the equivalent day last year (Monday December 3 2012), Argos saw 3.1 million visits across argos.co.uk, its mobile site and apps – almost 50% more than Cyber Monday 2011. Check & Reserve orders, where customers reserve stock for immediate collection from store, and home delivery orders, were both also up by around 50% compared to the previous year.

Last year, Argos’ online visits peaked between 10-11am, with many shoppers starting two to three hours earlier than the previous year, and again in the evening between 9-10pm, with almost 4,700 visits per minute to Argos channels.

Argos supply director Graham Barnes said: “Almost half of all Argos sales are online and with more customers expected to shop digitally this Christmas, we’re doing everything we can to make it easy for our customers to get what they want, the way that they want it across our stores and delivery channels.

“This year will be the most digital Christmas ever for Argos with customers able to browse gift ideas using our first online gift guide. Our six new digital stores will offer local customers benefits such as touch-screen digital browsers and Fast Track collection for online orders.”

According to Experian Hitwise, 112 million visits were made to retail sites on Cyber Monday in 2012, a 32% increase year-on-year. Last year, UK consumers also set new records for the amount of time spent shopping online in a single day, spending 15 hours on retail sites.
