Baileys Home Store is “one of the most inspiring home stores you’ll ever visit,” claims retail consultant Mary Portas.

Baileys Home Store excels in Mary Portas' Shop! Review

Writing in her regular Shop! Column in the Telegraph Magazine on July 7, she describes the Ross-on-Wye retailer as “a brilliant shop: simple and stylish without being minimalist… with beautifully merchandised spaces”. She adds: “Everybody here carries as basket, and I would defy anyone to leave empty-handed.”

The business was founded by husband and wife team Mark and Sally Bailey in 1985. It is tucked away on a farm in the Herefordshire countryside and focuses on homeware displayed across 10,000sq ft. Housewares account for roughly 15% of space and brands include Mason Cash, Kilner and Pillivuyt.

Baileys Home Store is the winner of the ‘Best for Interiors’ category of the Telegraph Magazine’s ‘Best Small Shops in Britain’ 2012 award.

Mary Portas’ review concludes: “Retail consultants like me love to bang on about the fabulous concept stores of the world’s cities. But sometimes it’s good to be reminded that you don’t have to travel to a big metropolis to find a great retailer.

“Baileys, your choice as the best small home shop in the land, is actually one of the best in the world.”

Baileys Home Store is profiled in the May/June 2012 issue of Housewares Magazine.
