BHETA launches ‘ground-breaking’ GfK data service

BHETA (British Home Enhancement Trade Association) is launching a retail data service for members, following an exclusive deal with research and data provider GfK.

The trade body will supply its members with quarterly updated retail point-of-sale data, delivered from GfK’s network of UK retailers.

The statistics will be broken down into BHETA’s four sector categories of home improvement (DIY), garden, housewares and small electricals, and then further broken down by product groups, correlated to BHETA’s online Retailer Zone.

The BHETA Retailer Zone features information from all BHETA member suppliers, and provides a real-time search function – by product category, brand and supplier – for retailers.

The new service starts this month with the first quarterly update issued in September. The aim is for BHETA members to be able to benchmark their own performance against the market.

BHETA housewares sector director Will Jones said: “While BHETA has long been able to access GfK data, it has not previously been able to provide it in this category-specific way, let alone match it to our own online product search facility.  This will be an excellent opportunity for the industry – suppliers and retailers alike – to benchmark their own performances.”

BHETA DIY sector director Paul Grinsell added: “Not only is GfK providing this really ground-breaking service, but it will also be speaking regularly at BHETA member forums to explore the implications and opportunities that the quarterly data will reveal.”
