The British Independent Retailers Association (bira) is looking for a managing director designate for bira direct, to take the company forward from the retirement next year of the current managing director Paul Woolley.

Bira direct uses the combined purchasing power of over 7,000 bira members to negotiate better buying terms for the independent retail members of bira across the UK.

Bira deputy ceo and communications director Michael Weedon said: “With an annual turnover of £26 million, the wholly-owned subsidiary of bira has ambitious plans for growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for development and implementation of commercial strategy for bira direct and will be closely involved in the buying process. Product knowledge in the DIY, housewares, cookware and gift sectors would be preferable.” The position is based in Birmingham.
