Bira member Simon James steps up to the challenge

South Devon Bira branch member Simon James is taking part in a demanding endurance challenge this weekend.

He is a member of Torbay lifeboat crew based in Brixham and between them, they will be running a total of 500 miles over 24 hours on Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19 to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

The crew sadly lost their former colleague Steve Lunn to the disease, and it’s in Steve’s memory that this event is taking place. They aim to raise £5,000 for the charity through their efforts.

Bira said: ‘Simon has agreed to run 36 miles during this event – and for someone who has never run before, it’s proving to be quite a challenge. So please help the pain go away by sponsoring him and the rest of the crew to achieve their target by visiting their JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/24-500-endurance-challenge
