Bluewater tops shopping centre survey

Going Shopping 2011 – The Definitive Guide to Shopping Centres, published every three years by Trevor Wood Associates, ranks 500 of the UK’s centres using footfall, size, the number and type of shops and the facilities available as its criteria.

The MetroCentre in Gateshead came in in second place after Bluewater, followed by London’s Westfield in third position.

The report also reveals the expansion of the budget store since the last guide was published. Poundland has grown the most, while fascias such as Shoe Zone, Peacocks and Card Factory have all moved up the occupancy table. Mobile phone stores have seen the most expansion overall.

The survey found too that 95% of the centres studied have stores trading every Sunday, up from 92% in the 2008 review.
