The Cake & Bake Show held its first northern show last weekend in Manchester and notched up a sell-out success.

More than 27,000 baking fans walked through the doors of Manchester Central in the heart of the north-west city to enjoy the three-day event, described as the country’s biggest experiential baking show.

It was sponsored by Lakeland, Sainsbury’s, Squires Kitchen and Bonne Maman, while the headline sponsor was BakingMad.com, billed as the UK’s most visited home baking website.

Housewares exhibitors included Bamix, Falcon Products, Renshaw, The Cake Decorating Company, Squires Kitchen, The Kids Cooking Company, Jamie At Home, Lakeland, Cake Tinsmith, Platters Slate, Magic Knife ands The Knife Sharpening Company.

Baking stars such as Paul Hollywood, Simon Rimmer, Eric Lanlard, Tom Herbert, John Whaite, Stacie Stewart, Peter Sidwell, Mich Turner, Paul a Young and many more demonstrated at the show, hosted classroom sessions and judged competitions and bake offs.

Visitors were given the chance to join baking stars from their favourite TV shows in the Sainsbury’s Competition Theatre, participate in Q&A sessions with them on the Lakeland interview stage, and get involved in interactive baking workshops and bread demonstrations.

For cake decorating fans, a full programme of cake decorating classes was available in the Renshaw Sugarcraft Academy, as well as more than 60 fashion-inspired cakes on display on the Stork Cake Catwalk.

Other highlights of the show included the Billington’s gingerbread village with a 7ft high gingerbread house, complete with life-size Hansel & Gretel and woodland scene created live during the show.

Show director Luke Collings said: “After the success of our launch show in London we received lots of requests to bring Cake & Bake to the north of England and Manchester seemed like the perfect home for the event. We’re delighted with the amazing response we’ve received; the atmosphere has been fantastic and the passion and enthusiasm for all things Cake & Bake has been overwhelming.’

Tickets are now on sale for the Cake & Bake Show London, which returns to Earl’s Court, from September 13-15.
