Debenhams achieves ‘good trading performance’

Debenhams increased sales in the 43 weeks to 25 June, and said it had seen a good trading performance in the second half to date.

The department stores group also said in an interim statement that it had been particularly pleased with the sales trends that it had experienced over the past two months.

Group gross transaction value over the period was up 3.1%, and 2.9% up in the second half to date.

Like-for-like sales including VAT grew by 1.1% over the 43 weeks and by 3.0% in the second half.

Particularly strong growth continued in the non-store elements of Debenhams’ business, with online, in-store ordering and mobile sales leaping 77.0% over the same period last year.

Three new stores opened in the year to date – two new department stores in Bath and Wakefield and one small format store in Fareham.
