Former Royal Worcester man to head up Dartington

Neil Hughes, 41, joined Devon-based Dartington as operations director in 2006 following the management buy-out that took the UK’s only remaining glassmaker back into independent ownership.

He has a strong background in manufacturing and operations from his time working with Royal Worcester, which he joined in 1987 as a factory labourer. He progressed through the business, improving the efficiency of the operation, and was instrumental in helping to turn a loss-making operation into a profitable one.

Hughes commented: “Dartington’s history is not as long as Royal Worcester’s, but to modern consumers it is as distinctive and admired for its quality and design and we’re working hard to keep it that way in these challenging times.”

Dartington Crystal incorporates Royal Brierley Crystal and Caithness Glass, and Dartington is now the only crystal brand still manufacturing in the UK.
