Gifts, Cook and Dine sales up 3% at John Lewis

Total sales for John Lewis for last week (to Saturday February 17) were down 0.7% on the week-ago period.

The department store group’s online trade director Mark Felix said Home sales were down 3.7%. But Valentine’s Day helped increase sales in Gifts, Cook and Dine, where sales were up 3%, with gift food up 11.5%

Electrical and Home Technology sales were down 1.5% but, Mark noted, “we continued to see strong sales of TVs, small electrical items including coffee machines, and vacuum cleaners”.

Fashion sales were up 3.3%. Womenswear sales were up 16.6% on last year and sales were also boosted by customers purchasing Valentine’s Day gifts, with strong sales of jewellery, perfume and purses.
