Grow-your-own craze ‘still driving garden market’

According to research by the Horticultural Trades Association, the grow-your-own fruit and veg market will “both drive and define the market for garden plants and products in 2010”.

It says that garden retail spending is “again likely to be dominated by grow-your-own categories. “Almost half of garden owners (45%) said that they intend to grow their own fruit, vegetables or salads and herbs this year.”

The association also says that a quarter of garden owners expect to spend more time working on their gardens this year and that hopes of a “barbecue summer” remain high, with 29% hoping to relax and entertain more in their gardens in 2010.
