Home sales up 8% at John Lewis

Total sales at John Lewis last week (to Saturday July 1), were up 8.8% to £98.7 million

The period was the department store group’s full week of summer clearance.

Barry Matheson, head of shop trade for Scotland & North, commented: “Electrical and Home Technology had a really strong week, with sales up 12.4% year-on-year. As customers took advantage of clearance prices, sales of Apple products rose 34% overall, with Apple watches sales increasing by 115%.”

He added: “Home also had a good week, with sales up 8%. Outdoor Living performed particularly well, with sales up 38.4%, as the good weather continues to see people spend more time outdoors. Decor Bed Linen also saw a rise in sales, up 12.8%.”

Fashion sales rose 7% as the warm weather continued to boost sales. The retailer’s Loved and Found range performed strongly, with sales up 46.3%, and beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales were up 12.5%.
