Hoover fridge hits the golden age

Appliance manufacturer Hoover is celebrating the longevity and quality of its products, following the discovery of a fully-functioning 50-year-old fridge.

Hoover fridge hits the golden age

Hoover customers Mr and Mrs Ward wrote a letter to the company last month entitled ‘A rather ancient refrigerator’ to thank them for the years of service that the Hoover fridge had given, and to check whether they wanted it as a museum piece.

Mrs Ward commented: “We bought the fridge for our very first home in 1965 and it has served us incredibly well over the last 49 years in four of our homes – and from time to time it has been loaned to our two daughters whilst they were at university or college. This might not be a record but we think it reflects very well on the quality of Hoover products. It hasn’t given us any trouble since the day we bought it.”

Steve Macdonald, trade marketing director of the freestanding division at Hoover, said: “It’s always nice to hear from our customers and we were particularly delighted to receive this letter from the Wards. The fridge was manufactured in 1964 and was one of our best-selling models of that era. For generations, Hoover has been committed to developing and producing market leading appliances. The discovery of the Wards’ fridge is a fantastic testament to our efforts past and present.”
