Huddersfield cookshop changes hands

Fairmont & Main, the tabletop supplier that also ran the cookshop, yesterday completed a sale of the business to first-time retailer Sharon Jewitt.

The shop, formerly known as Strawberry Fair, used to stock a comprehensive range of tabletop lines along with the kitchenware and housewares. But 18 months ago Fairmont & Main decided to take out all the china and glass and concentrate on the cookshop side.

Managing director Philip Harrison told HousewaresLive.net that it had proved to be a good decision from a business point of view, but that he felt the time had now come to focus exclusively on being a supplier.

And, he admitted: “Pans don’t thrill me like tableware does….my first love is tableware.”

The cookshop, which occupies extensive premises in the West Yorkshire town, also includes a restaurant, and Harrison said that the owner plans to incorporate a deli too.
