An appeal on behalf of the charity by BBC newsreader Louisa Preston, compering the event, raised £1,861.64 – and HousewaresLive.net publisher Faversham House Group immediately offered to round the figure up to £2,000.

Accepting the donation and thanking the audience, RDT vice-president Colin Petty also presented a bottle of champagne to Roger Vale, kitchens and bathrooms buyer at Stax Trade Centres, winner of the charity draw at the lunch.
