John Lewis will invest £7m in the development, which will be located on a new site, just off junction 9 of the M20, and create some 160 new jobs.

The new-build store will extend over two floors with the ground and first floor selling areas totalling 40,000sq ft. The plans include a customer café and around 200 car parking spaces.

John Lewis managing director Andy Street said: “Ashford is an ambitious town with a positive attitude to high quality development and we look forward to becoming part of the Ashford story.

“Our plans to open in Ashford will also help realise our ambition to have more than 10 At Home shops by the end of 2012.”

The retailer has already announced plans to open At Home stores in Chester and Tamworth this autumn and in Newbury by spring 2012.
