Department store chain bags top spot in Verdict consumer poll again, as well as title of top homewares retailer.

A poll of more than 6,000 consumers revealed that John Lewis remains the nation’s favourite retailer, having bagged the top spot for the fourth consecutive year.
Verdict consulting director Neil Saunders said of the result: “John Lewis’ formula for success is tantalisingly simple: great service, broad and compelling ranges, superior quality, and honest and fair pricing. But it’s a model that’s extremely difficult to emulate. The result is that John Lewis makes consumers feel good about shopping: it delivers value over and above just the physical purchase.”
Ikea came in second, scoring well on both price and range, with the results following a year in which the retailer managed to successfully grow its share in a market that saw an overall contraction in size. Mr Saunders said: “Ikea offers good quality, stylish modern products at market-beating prices…that’s something consumers have welcomed during these more constrained times.”
John Lewis also came top in the homewares sector, followed again by Ikea in second place and Dunelm in third.
Asda was voted second favourite in the electricals retailer category – a sector that John Lewis also topped – while Amazon bagged third place.
With budgets tight for many, price was a key issue for consumers voting this year, explained Mr Saunders. “This year’s winners tend to be retailers that focus heavily on price or retailers that add a lot of value to their offers.”
