Mary Portas reveals ‘What Britain Bought in 2017’

Retail expert Mary Portas returns to Channel 4 this week for her annual review of the nation’s retail spending habits over the past 12 months.

Her one-hour documentary, entitled ‘What Britain Bought in 2017’, airs on Thursday (December 28) at 9pm on Channel 4 and is described by the broadcaster asan eye-opening look at the stand-out items on the nation’s £7.5 billion-a-week shopping list’.

With the help of some of Britain’s biggest retailers (including housewares specialist Lakeland), industry experts and customers, presenter Mary guides viewers through some of the ‘must have’ products of the year, the reasons behind their popularity and prominence, and how Brits’ shopping habits related to the most significant news stories of the year.

Revealing that big knickers, unicorns and gin are on the agenda, Channel 4 intriguingly added: ‘And if you haven’t been pimping your prosecco, wearing your politics on your chest, or giving a Fidget Spinner a go – where on earth have you been?!’

2017 winner: Mary Portas turns the spotlight on Prosecco Shimmer – a best-selling powder that turns prosecco into a subtly flavoured rose gold drink
