Non-food ‘will prosper online this Christmas’

Verdict Research predicts that, in total, UK consumers will spend £85.2bn this Christmas, £1.6bn more than last year. The total spent over the internet is forecast to grow £1.2bn from last year to £8.1bn, accounting for 9.5% of all festive season sales.

And Verdict says that non-food categories will see the biggest online sales growth – 17.8% compared to just 0.8% for total non-food sales.

Verdict says the strength of online retailing means that retailers without transactional websites are missing out at the crucial Christmas sales period.
