Non-food – homewares, electrical goods and clothing – is growing three times faster than food at Sainsbury’s, the grocer revealed today.

Total sales in the 16 weeks to October 2 were up 5.2%, compared to 4.4% in the last quarter.
The supermarket’s Tu clothing is driving growth in non-food, while online sales put on 25%.
Sainsbury’s now has 537 supermarkets and 335 convenience stores, and aims to open 1.45m sq ft of new space in its current financial year.
