Homewares retailers and department stores enjoyed above-average website visits as June’s poor weather drove shoppers back onto the internet.

Online homewares reap bad-weather benefits

The month saw a small recovery in online retailing, with an increase in visits to retail websites for the first time in five months. In April and May visits fell by as much as 5% but June saw a 2% year-on-year rise.

Within the total, home and garden retailers and department stores did especially well, each attracting a 7% year-on-year increase in visits. Video and games sites were also up 7%, while apparel and accessories sites managed 11%.
