Orrefors teams up with Volvo Cars to create new collection

Swedish glassmaker Orrefors and Volvo Cars have joined forces to create Sarek: an exclusive handmade crystal glassware collection.

Created by award-winning Swedish glass and textiles designer Lena Bergström and Volvo Cars’ design team, Orrefors said Sarek represents ‘the best of modern Scandinavian design’. It explained: ‘The clarity and sharpness of each piece owes much to the craftsmanship of Orrefors and serves as a reflection of the clarity and precision of Volvo Cars’ design.”

Lena said: “When I was growing up in the north of Sweden, we would go on walks in the woods and take food in small wooden boxes made of plaited birch bark, traditional to the area. I used this distinctive diamond pattern as inspiration for the facets on these pieces.”

The new range marks the continuation of a collaboration that brought these Swedish companies together to create the crystal gear selector in Volvo Cars’ Twin Engine hybrid models.

Sarek will be available in selected stores and Volvo Cars’ retailers, as well as at www.collection.volvocars.com and www.orrefors.com in September.
