Premium bedding sales up 22% at John Lewis & Partners

Total sales for John Lewis & Partners were up 1.7% last week (to Saturday May 18).

The department store group’s trading director Simon Coble said the retailer posted “a strong performance in shops over the weekend, as we annualised the impact of the royal wedding weekend last year”.

He added: “Home sales were down 0.3%, with premium bedding up 22% driven by customers investing in new sheets and pillowcases to upgrade their bedrooms. Gift food, stationery and gifts were down, as last year saw an uplift around the royal wedding.

“Electrical and home technology sales were down 2.2%. On Friday we hosted a world exclusive OnePlus 7 Pro launch on the roof of [John Lewis’  flagship branch on London’s] Oxford Street, which provided customers with an exclusive look and feel of the new model and the option to purchase the device at the event.

“Fashion sales were up 5.8% with beauty sales up 9.5% due to competitor price-matching. However, warm weather products were down 9% due to the cooler temperatures compared with the same week last year.”
