Record numbers buy on mobile phones as John Lewis Clearance begins online

John Lewis’ Clearance sale has got off to a busy start since it launched online on Christmas Eve at 5pm.

The department store group saw a record volume of customers buying on their mobile phones, with nearly half (47.1%) of all traffic coming from mobile phones on Christmas Day.

The busiest hour was between 6pm and 7pm on Christmas Eve, while the peak hour for placing orders on Christmas Day was between 9pm and 10pm.

Mark Felix, director for online trade at John Lewis said: “Customers were quick to start shopping for offers this year. The trend of shopping on mobile phones again saw an increase this year.”

*John Lewis Ruskin House giftwrap price £2.00 (was £4.00).
