Sales up at Argos and Homebase

Argos and Homebase have both enjoyed a strong start to their financial years.

Like-for-like sales at Argos were up 0.9% in the 13 weeks to June 2 compared to the same period a year earlier, while like-for-likes at Homebase rose 2.7%.

However, owner of the two chains, Home Retail Group, said it was cautious about future performance because of the “uncertain consumer outlook” in what it described as a “highly-competitive market”.
