Department store group John Lewis started its second half last week (to August 2), with a 7.5% growth on the year.

John Lewis Home buying director Christine Kasoulis said: “Sales of new season product across all categories are driving this performance, which is very encouraging for the weeks to come.”
In Home, the strongest start to the half year came in furniture where the ‘Any Shape, Any Fabric’ proposition in upholstery continued to drive demand, while bed sales grew 25%. For electricals and home technology (EHT), large and small electricals continued their good run led by refrigeration and fan products.
The High Wycombe branch topped the retailer’s performance table by delivering growth of 26% on the year, followed by two John Lewis At Home stores: at Tunbridge Wells and Newbury.
“Overall it was a positive story for the first week of the half,” Christine Kasoulis said, which “gives great confidence for trading over the coming weeks and beyond”.
