Strong half year performance from Portmeirion Group

Sales were up by 2% at £22.8 million compared with (£22.3 million for the comparative period in 2011, and profit before tax was up 6% to £1.5 million against £1.4 million.

Portmeirion Group managing director Michael Haynes said: “The first half of this year has seen us deliver another strong set of results, despite the worldwide economic difficulties.”

The Spode and Royal Worcester Jubilee collections helped boost sales worldwide and he said he was “very optimistic” about the potential of new products launched this year which include Christmas Wish (pictured), Vintage Kellogg’s and the two Sanderson for Portmeirion ranges (Fifi and Porcelain Garden), Spode gift collections and Royal Worcester mugs.

Mr Hayes added that he believes the Group is on course and in line with market expectations for the full year to December 31. He noted that its annual performance is weighted towards the second half of the year which includes the very important Christmas trading period, especially for Portmeirion’s largest market of the US.

“Production, sourcing and logistics are meeting all the challenges and are positioned well to meet customers’ needs,” he said.
