Tefal shares top tips for perfect pancakes

Pancake Day continues to be the one of the most significant themed promotions in the cookware calendar. Last year Tefal notched up record-breaking sales on its cookware ranges during this key period.

Ahead of the big day, Tefal cookware marketing manager Stefan Kaczmarczyk has put together three pointers:

First, the pan: invest in a quality non-stick pan, as it means perfect pancakes without adding oil or butter, he says. Also, pay attention to the quality of the pan; thinner pans can create hot spots so go for a solid base and aluminium construction for optimal heat distribution.

Second, hot stuff: Stefan notes that pouring well-mixed batter into an under-heated pan is a sure-fire way to turn pancakes into a flop. If the pan doesn’t have a heat indicator, the user can always splash in a drop of water – if it hisses and jumps, then it’s good to go.

Third, stay patient: once the topside of the pancake starts to bubble, it’s time to flip the pancake over. Unless the pan has the latest metal-utensil safe non-stick, remember to only use wooden or plastic turners. But be warned, Stefan says: the perfect pancake should only be flipped once; over-handling can make the pancake tough, and multiple flips make for an uneven cook.
