Debenhams chief Rob Templeman has been named as the new chairman of the British Retail Consortium.

He succeeds Luke Mayhew, who steps down from the role on October 1 this year.
Templeman will be chief executive of Debenhams until September 2, when he will be retiring from the company. He has also held the role of chief executive at Halfords, Homebase and Harveys Furnishing.
BRC director general Stephen Robertson described Templeman as “a heavyweight in the world of retail. His huge experience and formidable knowledge of the big issues that the sector faces make him an ideal chairman for the BRC as we work to help create a vibrant and sustainable retail industry for the future.”
