The Original Cookware Company store set to close

Andy and Ellie Hall, owners of The Original Cookware Company in Leicester city centre, have decided to close their high street store.

The Original Cookware Company store set to close

The housewares retailer shares premises with fellow business, St Martin’s Tea & Coffee Marchants, which the couple founded in 2011.

The pair said: “It’s been a difficult decision to make. The cookware store has been a stalwart of Leicester’s independent retail scene since 1987. But St Martin’s Tea & Coffee Merchants has expanded greatly. We have to focus our efforts on our tea and coffee business, as we see this as our future.”

The partners continued: “We may continue The Original Cookware Company as an online store or sell this on.”

The space vacated by housewares items will be used for more seating areas in the premises, which is located in St Martin’s Square. Andy and Ellie Hall stressed that they will still sell housewares products that are related to tea and coffee such as teapots, coffee pots and giftware.

They explained that following the creation of St Martin’s Tea & Coffee Merchants, the business has grown rapidly “as customers have found the taste of our in-house roasted coffee beans irrestible.”

Their activity has now grown into wholesale supply, creating coffee and tea for other cookshops, cafes, restaurants and delis – and worldwide distribution of both tea and coffee.

A cookshop closing clearance sale will be held on Saturday, June 29. “Once in a lifetime’ bargains are to be had as the shelves have to be cleared!” said Andy.
