The business runs 39 stores across the UK, concentrating its efforts in high-cost, high-footfall outlet villages, high streets and shopping centres such as Bluewater and Meadowhall in Sheffield.

It also operates online via its website procook.co.uk.

Richard Hill and Joff Pope of KPMG Restructuring were appointed joint administrators of ProCook – which trades as The Professional Cookware Company – today.

Pope said: “Unfortunately, the rapid expansion of the company into the high street has coincided with a time of tough trading for the retail sector, which means the business has hit problems.

“Trading will continue as normal whilst we seek a buyer for the business as a going concern.”

The retailer employs 261 staff, including 20 at its head office in Cheltenham. It was set up in 1993 as a family business, and soon became known for selling a stainless steel saucepan set via magazine advertisements and consumer fairs. Later it launched a mail order catalogue.

Today, the stores source much of their own ProCook cookware and kitchenware, which is sold alongside top brands.
