The electrical food prep market continues to be a standout performer within kitchen appliances, outpacing all other appliance sectors.

According to new figures from GfK, the category reported a volume increase of just over 5% in the 12 months to October 2012, as well as significant 16% growth in value when compared to the previous year.

Most of the increase in value has come from the higher to mid-ticket items such as kitchen machines and liquidisers, which have added £13.8m to the overall food prep market. Volume growth has come from hand mixers and choppers, and has mainly been fuelled by the introduction of new products.

And more growth is likely to come over the next few weeks. GfK predicts that areas like food prep and fun kitchen accessories will benefit from the Christmas season, as consumers look towards entertaining guests at home and giving the latest kitchen gadget as a Christmas gift.

Hot beverage makers is another key category that will excel in November and December due to its gift appeal, GfK adds.
