The latest addition to the prestigious line-up of speakers at The Housewares Conference is a veteran of the world of housewares retailing
Yossi Gliksman has been in the housewares industry for nearly 30 years and has seen many changes “in trends, styles, prices and people” over the past three decades.
He is the founder and proprietor of Upstairs Downstairs in the Shropshire market town of Oswestry. Established in 1987, this specialist store is the winner of the Best Cookshop category of the Housewares Retail Innovation Awards 2013.
During the Conference, Yossi will discuss the changes he has introduced to his business to allow it to survive in challenging times. Yossi says: “I feel the independent retail market is going through its hardest time ever. The market is completely dominated by discounting brand names, and faces a constant price-matching war – and we, as small independent retailers, must find ways to survive it. I’m not even saying we should find ways to fight it, because we simply can’t, but there are ways around it…” The theme of his presentation, he says, is: “‘Where are we going from here’? That’s a question that every small retailer will have to ask.” Yossi will also talk about his role as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in Oswestry – a position he has held for nine years.
