U Group increases hospital bin production five-fold to meet NHS needs

Birmingham based manufacturer U Group has increased its hospital bin production five-fold to satisfy orders for the NHS.

Historically a housewares distributer, the company has made significant investments in its production capabilities and now produces a vast array of products from bakeware to bins to service the hospitality industry, the domestic market and healthcare establishments such as the NHS and care homes.

Last year U Group significantly invested in its bin manufacturing process, with the installation of an injection moulding machine. This speeds up the production process and allows it to respond to crisis situations. The change has enabled it to service large orders to support the overwhelming surge bin requirements from the NHS to help the fight against Covid-19.

Lee McDonagh, managing director of U Group, said: “Our strategy in recent years has been to have greater control of the quality and costs of our products, and to that avail we made a conscious move to UK production. We are pleased that we can respond to the NHS’ demands and hope it helps goes some way to reduce the suffering caused by the virus.”
