Sales excluding fuel at Waitrose & Partners were down 0.9% last week (to Saturday September 21) compared with the same week last year.
The supermarket chain’s customer director Martin George said: “Rosé wine sales increased last week – perhaps encouraged by the unseasonably warm weather towards the weekend – and low alcohol options also saw strong sales.
“This year’s Halloween range is launching in shops this week with pumpkins arriving in store from today [Tuesday September 24].”
