Total sales excluding fuel were down 0.6% at Waitrose & Partners last week (to Saturday September 22) compared with the same week last year.

The supermarket chain’s customer director Martin George said: “More autumnal weather conditions prompted customers to seek out warming foods, with fresh soups up 9% and root vegetables up 6%.Crumbles were clearly on the menu too, with blackberries seeing a 61% uplift.”

Last week saw the launch of our first trial of Waitrose Rapid in selected London postcodes. This is a retail delivery service that enables customers to have their food and drink delivered straight to their door within two hours or on the same day.
