Weekly Home sales up 2.3% at John Lewis

Retailer John Lewis saw a strong performance across all three categories last week (to October 22), with total sales of £91m, up 6.7% on the year.

Home sales finished the week up 2.3%, with big ticket items proving popular as customers look to ready their home in time for Christmas.

Amanda Dammers, head of shop trade, Central & Midlands, said: “We saw the launch of a special Autumn Event across shops and online with a variety of offers on Home products.”

EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) sales were up 8.7% on the year, bolstered by Mobile delivering one of its biggest ever weeks. Audio products continued to perform well with headphone sales up 71%.

Fashion sales at the department store group were 10.3% on the year, driven by womenswear in particular which was up 21.4%.

Last week the retailer opened its 48th shop: a regional flagship department store in Leeds. Amanda noted: “Customers are continuing to update their winter wardrobes, with cold weather fashion items selling well. Our new shop in Leeds also had a successful first few days of fashion sales.”
