Williams-Sonoma to make UK debut?

American housewares retailer Williams-Sonoma reportedly plans to open its first store in the UK.

Weekly business magazine ‘Retail Week’ claims that the specialist retailer is on the verge of completing a deal for a premises on Tottenham Court Road – London’s famous ‘homeware, furniture and electricals shopping strip – under the West Elm fascia.

‘Retail Week’ says it is thought that retail property advisor Harper Dennis Hobbs (HDH) is acting for Williams-Sonoma in the UK.

According to HDH’s website, its retail clients include House of Fraser, Costa Coffee, Paul Smith, Fendi, Tiffany & Co, Primark, Reiss, Tag Heuer, American Apparel, Swarovski , Burberry – and Williams-Sonoma.

Williams-Sonoma describes itself as ‘a specialty retailer of high-quality products for the home’. These products, representing seven merchandise strategies – Williams-Sonoma (cookware and wedding registry), Pottery Barn (furniture and wedding registry), Pottery Barn Kids (kid’s furniture and baby registry), PBteen (girls’ bedding and boys’ bedding), West Elm (modern furniture and room decor), Williams-Sonoma Home (luxury furniture and decorative accessories) and Rejuvenation (lighting and hardware) – are marketed through 579 stores, seven direct mail catalogues and six ecommerce websites.

The company currently operates in the US and Canada, offers international shipping to customers worldwide, and franchises its brands throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.

West Elm is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. The brand introduced its first catalogues in 2002 and opened the doors of its first retail location in 2003.
