Administrators for TJ Hughes say that the last five stores for which they were seeking a buyer will now close down this week.
Tomorrow, Wednesday August 31, will see the last day of trading for the Doncaster, Bradford, Sunderland, Lichfield and Wrexham discount department stores, with the loss of a further 263 jobs.
Joint administrator at Ernst & Young, Tom Jack, said: “A purchaser for these remaining stores was not found, and regrettably we have had to schedule these final store closures. We are extremely grateful to the employees and management at all the group’s stores for their loyalty and support during this very difficult time.”
Only six of TJ Hughes’ total of 57 stores have a found a buyer, Lewis’s Home Retail. The rest have been closing progressively throughout this month, with over 2,500 staff being put out of work. Just 700 jobs have been saved.
