Amazon announces Prime Day 2018 details

Amazon revealed today (Tuesday July 3) that its annual shopping event, Prime Day, will start on July 16 at midday and run until midnight on July 17.

The online retailer said: ‘Bigger than ever, Prime Day (and a half) will extend from 30 hours in 2017 to 36 hours this year, with more than one million deals exclusively for Prime members around the world.’

Members in the UK, US, Spain, Mexico, Japan, India, Italy, Germany,  France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria – and, new this year, Australia,  Singapore, Netherlands and Luxembourg – can shop deals across kitchen, appliances, smart home, TVs, grocery, toys, furniture, fashion and more.

Ina new initiative, ahead of Prime Day itself, larger-than-life Amazon ‘Smile’ boxes will make their way across land and sea for delivery to major cities around the world including London, New York, LA, Tokyo and Milan, which promise to ‘unbox’  exclusive entertainment experiences for Prime members and the general public.

In London, Amazon will host an entertainment extravaganza on Sunday July 15 – the eve of Prime Day which will bring together a series of ‘unique experiences for all ages’ to showcase the entertainment benefits of Amazon’s Prime membership.

The event will include a special family screening of Paddington 2, available to stream as part of Amazon’s Prime membership subscription from July 12 and a reading and Q&A with author Ant Middleton (best known as the chief instructor on the Channel 4 TV series ‘SAS: Who Dares Wins’) on his best-selling book ‘First Man In: Leading from the Front’. It will culminate in an exclusive gig headlined by pop band Take That.

Tickets to the ‘Unbox  Prime Day’ event will be available for free to both Prime and non-Prime  members, with attendees registering at unboxprimeday.co.uk for a chance to secure a limited  number of tickets on a first come, first served basis.

Also new for this year, established and emerging brands will launch exclusive new items and offers (including the latest smart home technology, home entertainment, jewellery and beauty products) for a limited time on Amazon.co.uk in the lead up to and during Prime Day, before they are launched anywhere else in the UK.

And for the first time, Prime members will also be able to celebrate Prime Day at their local Whole Foods Market. Prime members will enjoy savings on a selection of the natural and organic products across all London stores on Prime Day.

Last year a record number of Prime members shopped across 13 countries during Prime Day, with more than 5 million items purchased in the UK alone.
