Sunday June 4 is the day when the British summer will really begin, according to Amazon.co.uk

The online giant’s prediction is based on its sales data trends from 2013 to 2016. Over the past three years, summer-related products such as sun loungers, paddling pools, fans and barbecues have had a spike in sales of 380% on this day.

Over the past five years, the first full week in June has been the best-selling week for summer-related products, with Norpro Ice Pop Makers, Zoggy Dive Sticks and the Intex Dinosaur Play Centre and Bestway Delux Family Pool proving perennial best sellers.

Amazon.co.uk released these findings to coincide with the launch yesterday (Wednesday April 26) of its #NowItsSummer store, which aims to help customers find the best products and entertainment to make the most of the changeable British summer.

The new amazon.co.uk/nowitssummer page combines weather data and Amazon’s recommendation technology to display relevant summer-related products depending on the weather conditions where a customer lives.

Categories include The Great Outdoors, Festivals, Picnic, Smart Home & Garden, Barbeque, Party, Al Fresco and Gardening.

Amazon UK country manager Doug Gurr said; “With our vast selection and fast delivery we can help customers make quick decisions like throwing an impromptu barbecue or getting hold of wet weather contingency essentials.

“The weather-reactive #NowItsSummer store has products, TV shows, music playlists and books that dynamically relate to the weather conditions.

“Whether the sun inspires you to get summer garden party essentials or you need a fresh playlist for a run, or you suddenly need a new pair of wellies or films to download on your tablet for a worrying festival weather outlook, the Amazon.co.uk #NowItsSummer store will offer everything you need to save the day.”

Amazon said the store includes products for ‘the growing trends of urban gardening and grow-your-own; this summer’s garden furniture statement piece of the updated 1970s iconic hanging chair; weather flexible outdoor dining furniture; and garden centre pieces like fires or coolers’.

The Amazon Music #NowItsSummer 2017 playlist includes DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s summer classic ‘Summertime’ and Florence + The Machine’s summer anthem ‘You’ve Got The Love’. There will even be a ‘rainy days’ music playlist which will include tracks such as ‘Purple Rain’ by Prince and Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’.
