Katie Smith of Cooking Marvellous in Shrewsbury has been named the Cookshop & Housewares Association Young Retailer of the Year for 2012.

She was presented with her award, sponsored by small appliances distributor EPE, at the annual BIRA gala awards dinner in Birmingham last night.

The BIRA Direct award for Supplier of the Year in cookshop, housewares and gifts, chosen by CHA members, went to Eddingtons, which beat off competition from Dexam, Horwood and Taylor’s Eye Witness.

Rayware took the BIRA Direct award for best growth among cookshop and housewares suppliers, with Churchill, Culpitts and Taylor’s Eye Witness also shortlisted.

The award for the most promising newcomer among cookshop, housewares and tabletop suppliers went to Anniversary House, with George East and Premier Housewares shortlisted. And Anniversary House made it a double by also taking the BIRA Direct award for best marketing by a cookshop supplier. Bodum and La Cafetiere were also shortlisted.
