Gift developer and distributor Bunkerbound has announced the signing of a Popeye licensing deal for the UK and Ireland with US-based comic distributor and licensed property owner King Features.
In a deal brokered by UK agent Allsorts Licensing, Bunkerbound and King Features have signed a three-year giftware contract for the popular cartoon franchise.
Bunkerbound’s licensed Popeye giftware will be launching shortly, ready for 2015. The exclusively designed range will include Gentlemen’s Grooming Sets, 3D Mugs, Grow Your Own Spinach Sets and Olive Oyl kitchenware.
Bunkerbound managing director Ian Williams said: “Popeye and his contemporaries have held a special place in Britain’s heart for over 80 years. The cartoon is as relevant now as it was in the 1930s, with an appeal that spans across all ages.”
Cathleen Titus, King Features’ vice president of international licensing, commented: “We are delighted to be able to offer Popeye’s fans their own gift range. Bunkerbound’s creativity and strong distribution – from High Street to the independents – will be a great asset in placing Popeye product at a variety of retail levels.”
