Housewares and homewares chain Cargo is abandoning its venture to open concessions within garden centres.

The company is closing down its trial store in Solihull, located within a Blooms garden centre, a little over a year after it opened. Cargo said it had failed to live up to expectations.
The store will run a closing down sale until the end of June, when it will shut for good. It currently employs six people.
Cargo managing director Clive Gilbert said of the decision: “We’re extremely disappointed to be closing our Solihull store as we had high hopes for its success.
“We’ve trialled concessions in garden centres for over a year and unfortunately they haven’t met our expectations. The team have worked tremendously hard to make a success of the venture and we’re now working with them to try and secure alternative employment within our group.”
