CEO Saunders quits Habitat

After little more than a year in the job, Habitat’s chief executive Mark Saunders has left the retailer.

A statement from the company said: “Habitat UK can confirm that Mark Saunders has stepped down from his position as CEO of the Habitat group. As part of the wider turnaround of the group, a new CEO is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.”

Saunders joined Habitat in April of last year.

Meanwhile, the chain’s owner, Hilco, has installed Phil Wrigley, the former CEO and chairman of the fashion chain New Look, as its chairman.

Retail turnaround specialist Hilco bought Habitat last December, writing off debts and providing working capital of £45m. The chain lost £42m last year.
