John Lewis enjoyed ‘a really good sales week’ in the week to May 31, according to results published last Friday (June 6).

The department store group said sales were up 17% year-on-year boosted by wet weather over a bank holiday and half term, aided by promotional activity. That performance moved the cumulative growth up 9% on last year.
The best shop performers were High Wycombe, Tamworth, Newbury, Poole and Chichester while online results were 35% up year-on-year.
The Home buying offices were pleased with a 12% increase. Gifting and ‘pick up’ were up 17% for the week while cookshop and dining registered its biggest week of the year to date. Other stand-out performances were in lighting (up 24%), beds (up 22%) and bed linens (up 22%).
EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) had its biggest ever week in the first half year, with a 22% gain on last year. Large electrical and small electrical showed great growth. Vision is making the most of the lead-up to the World Cup, with a gain of 47% on a year ago.
