Independent gift and homeware retailer Copper & Grey has closed its Aberdeen store after six years, with its owners deciding to concentrate on the business’s original shop in Banchory.
Family-run gift and homeware retailer Copper & Grey has announced the closure of its Aberdeen city centre store, bringing six years of trading on Chapel Street to an end.
The independent business, owned by David and Katherine Canning, opened its Aberdeen branch in October 2020, taking over a unit that had been vacant for three years.
The shop offered a selection of gifts, cards, jewellery and homewares, but the owners have now decided to focus their efforts on the company’s original Banchory store, which opened in 2018.
Announcing the decision on social media, the owners said: “We’ve made the decision to concentrate our efforts on our Banchory shop, and although we’ll be sorry to close our doors on Chapel Street for the final time, we’re looking forward to the next chapter for Copper & Grey.”
The Aberdeen store’s final trading day was Saturday 24 October.
The couple also thanked customers and staff for their support over the past six years.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our lovely Aberdeen customers who have supported us over the years.
“It’s been a pleasure getting to know so many of you, and we’re incredibly grateful for your loyalty and friendship.
“And, of course, a special thank you to all our wonderful staff, past and present, who have been such an integral part of the Copper & Grey story.”
The Aberdeen premises had previously been occupied by independent gift shop Nova, which traded from the location for more than five decades before closing.
When Copper & Grey took over the site in 2020, the owners had hoped to build on its history as a destination for gifts and homewares in the city centre.
The closure follows the departure of two other businesses from Chapel Street in recent months, with patisserie Almondine closing in August and takeaway Spudz R Us shutting in September.
Despite the Aberdeen closure, Copper & Grey will continue trading from its shop at 16 High Street in Banchory, which remains open five days a week.
The owners added: “Our Banchory shop remains very much open, and we’d love to see you there!”
